"Mo Bamba" is a single by American rapper Sheck Wes. It was released on June 16, 2017, by Cactus Jack Records, GOOD Music and Interscope Records.[1] It serves as a unmarried from his debut studio album, Mudboy. The song was produced by 16yrold and record production duo Take a Daytrip. The vocal was a sleeper hitting, going viral in mid-2018, approximately a year afterward its release.

Groundwork [edit]

The song is named after so-Texas Longhorn and now Orlando Magic actor Mo Bamba, who grew up with Sheck Wes in his home town Harlem, New York neighborhood. The two spent some of their childhoods together.[2]

Producers 16yrold and Have a Daytrip consisting of Denzel Baptise and David Biral, who had met online, collaborated on the track's beat and composition.[iii] 16yrold invited Wes to record in the studio with them.[4] Wes recorded the bulk of the vocal in i take,[3] [v] with additional advert-libs recorded later.[5]

Baptise of Take a Daytrip looped the beat as Wes recorded his vocals. The beat cut off at the 1:38 minute mark of the vocal was the result of the laptop used to record Wes' vocals freezing. This caused concern amongst the producers who feared that the vocal would be ruined because the unabridged vocal up until that bespeak had been recorded in 1 take without any issues. At the one:40 minute mark of the song, Ali can be heard in the background maxim "woah".[4] Wes shouting out, "Oh! Fuck! Shit! Bitch!", was his actual reaction to the vanquish freezing by accident. Shortly afterwards, the crush unfroze every bit Wes proceeded to record a new verse on the spot.[4] [five]

Music video [edit]

The vocal's music video was released on Jan xxx, 2018, via YouTube and was directed by White Trash Tyler, Nick Walker and Wes himself. It is a music video in black and white and finds Wes on a basketball game court.[6]
